Bead Making Weekend
Jennie Baxter
Saturday and Sunday, April 12 and13, 9am – 4:30pm

This class will cover the basics of making, shaping and decorating glass beads in the flame. A variety of surface design techniques, safety and studio set-up will be covered. Use of frits, powders, enamels, twisties, and other materials will be demonstrated and used. Class will also cover making sculptural shapes and design. No previous glass experience is required.

Mobiles

Create mobiles like Alexander Calder using wire, solder and glass. Students will be exposed to the elementary components of mobile design and leave with one-of-a-kind, free flowing art objects that are colorful and classy. Mobiles are appropriate for all experience levels.

Glass Solar System

When the moon is in the 7th house and Jupiter aligns with Mars… Design your own unique solar system with marbles, wire and solder. The techniques used for creating stained glass can be utilized in some fabulous sculptural ways. Finished solar systems hang like mobiles.

Glass Blowing at the Bench Torch

Monday – Friday, July 21 – 25, 9am – 4:30pm

Let’s create with hot glass! In this one-week course, students will learn the basics of flame working and studio set up. The students will make small objects which are suitable for pendants, earrings, holiday ornaments, marbles and small paperweights. Objects can also be combined into larger sculptural objects. No experience necessary – all that is required is a sense of adventure and willingness to try new things.

Get to Know Your Torch

Monday – Friday, August 4 – 8, 9am – 4:30pm

In this class, students will work with the Nortel Minor bench burner that will go home with them at the end of the class. This great little torch is perfect for the person wanting to get into glass bead making using soft glass such as Moretti/Effetre. Students will learn the basics of bead making, moving up to intermediate techniques by the end of the week. We will also discuss the complete setup for the home studio, including safety. Oxygen concentrators will be available in the class for students to become familiar with, as an alternative to bottled oxygen. Materials fee will be $250, which includes the torch, hoses, glass, mandrels and bead release; the Center has basic tools for student use, and the instructors will have specialized tools available for use and/or purchase.

Intermediate Kilnforming
Ed and Martha Biggar
Monday – Friday, August 11 – 15, 9am – 4:30pm

Take fused glass to higher plateaus with this course designed to increase your knowledge of kiln work. Slumping, pate de verre, pattern bars, and more will enhance your present skills. Students will work with tile-sized examples and will create one or two larger pieces by the end of the class. Display and mounting techniques will also be discussed. Materials fee will be $85, including one mount, and extra glass will be available from the instructors for a nominal fee.

Glass Bead Making

Friday – Sunday, August 29 – 31, 9am – 4:30pm

Students will learn the basics of studio safety, the correct use of tools and equipment, winding a good base bead and a variety of surface decoration techniques. Beginning to intermediate students are welcome.
