Sixth Annual New Work Exhibit

Reception for Sixth Annual New Work Exhibit at The Jacksonville Center Floyd, VA. A "Meet the Artists" reception will be held on Saturday, August 9, 6-8pm for the "Sixth Annual New Work" exhibit in the Hayloft Gallery at The Jacksonville Center. Artists from Floyd and the surrounding area are exhibiting almost 90 works. New works and some new artists are the hallmark of this annual exhibit. A new addition to the exhibit this year is a book with artists' statements from the exhibiting artists.

The five acre Jacksonville Center campus is located in the town of Floyd, Virginia, just a few miles north of the Blue Ridge Parkway on the site of a former dairy farm and houses a vibrant arts & cultural facility for the traditional and contemporary arts.

The Jacksonville Center for the Arts offers a wide variety of arts & cultural activities for visitors and community members, including contemporary & folk art exhibits, educational programs for kids & adults, and social events throughout the year.

The Hayloft Gallery is located on the upper level in the barn's former hayloft, and features rotating exhibits of work by community members as well as nationally and internationally recognized artists & artisans. Downstairs, a retail shop and artist's studios offer a wide selection of items available for purchase. The Sustainable Living Education Center (SLEC) located outside the main building has installed examples of environmentally friendly practices such as a working wind generator.

Studio classes are offered at the Jacksonville Center, with weekend and week-long studio programs in blacksmithing, pottery, and glass working for local residents and visitors to the area. The glass working studio is located in the main building and the former creamery has been renovated into a pottery studio. A pole barn structure, set in a scenic location back in the woods, serves as the blacksmithing studio. Additional studio classes encompass a wide variety of other mediums. Lodging is available nearby for our visiting students.

The Jacksonville Center, located in Floyd, Virginia, is open to the public Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, Saturday, 10am-5pm, and Sunday, Noon - 5pm.
