When registering online, be sure to select your tuition option (General Public, Jax Member, or Deposit) from the drop menu and give the page a moment to reset itself. It will then reflect your tuition payment above the “Add to Cart” button.

Fire up your day in the Jax glass studio! Learn how to control hot, dripping glass to create beautiful and funky beads with all the colors of the rainbow. Each participant will learn about different kinds of glass used in hot glass production, especially soft glass and its special requirements, and will produce several beads using soft glass supplied by the center.
All materials, including glass, fuel, and firing, are included in class price.

Lara Davis Phelps discovered glass in her last year of college at RISD. Lara went back to school at the Appalachian Center for Crafts where she met her husband and discovered bead making. Building a studio, starting a business, and having a family are her current focus. She lives in Floyd with her husband and two kids.

- 20% off most classes
- 5% off gift shop purchases

Hot Glass Day Pack classes are scheduled AFTER students activate their Groupon by contacting the center. Participants will be consulted on the timing of the classes.

Get your hands dirty and get rewarded! Join us in the Jax pottery studio for a morning, afternoon, or evening workshop throwing or slabbing clay into your very own creations. Learn the basics of centering and forming on the wheel or how to roll and mold from slab to create mugs, bowls, plates, baking pans and more! Choose your 2 favorite pieces to be fired and glazed by our studio managers. In 4-8 weeks, you’ll have your new, handmade one-of-a-kind pottery in hand!
All materials, including clay, firing, and glaze, are included in package price. Participants will choose 2-3 glaze colors from a limited palette. Outcomes are not guaranteed.
