Want to get the most out of your DSLR and learn about its potential? Join Rob Jones in exploring your DLSR camera, learning about the fundamentals of DSLR cameras, digital capture basics, and image workflow, editing and presentation.
Students in this class are expected to have a basic understanding of the point and shoot aspects of their camera, and how to find its various settings.
Must bring your DLSR camera to class and, if you have a laptop that would be helpful (though not required!).
Minimum enrollment: 3, Maximum enrollment: 15
Beginner ● Materials Fee: $0 ● Minimum Age: Responsible Young Adult

Fundamentals of Your Digital Camera (OnDemand)

Have a simple digital Point and Shoot or DSLR digital camera that you know can do more but don’t know how to interpret the directions? This class will introduce students to the many functions and options available on their digital cameras. From aperture settings to pixel size and the appropriate settings for different situations, this class will help students who feel lost in their camera’s manual to find their way!
This is a very introductory course that is appropriate as a familiarizing session in preparation for the DSLR Photography course, though not required.
Students should bring their digital camera and its user manual as well as pencil and paper for note taking.

Introduction to High Dynamic Range Imaging in Photoshop (OnDemand)

HDR photography is an advanced technique that allows the serious photographer to capture the full range of tones in a scene that was previously too great to reproduce. Students can expect to complete the class with a basic understanding of HDR photography and the software and workflow that will allow them to achieve the results they want.

Because this is an intermediate class, there are some needs and prerequisites:
Hardware:
* Digital Camera with manual exposure and/or auto
bracketing capability (need)
* Laptop (nice to have)
* Tripod (really nice to have)
Software:
* Photoshop CS2-CS4 Extended or CS5 great to have
* Photomatix Pro (need to have if they don’t have PS
Extended CS5, trial version is available)
Knowledge of Photoshop basics including:
* Histograms
* Adjustment layers
* Noise reduction
* Sharpening
* How to read histogram
* How to set autobracketing
Photography:
* Concept of Exposure Value (f-Stops)
* How to set exposure

Product Photography: Creating Effective Images of Your Work (OnDemand)

Having trouble getting photographs of your work for a website or to submit to a show? Are you tired of digital photos that make your creations look dull or are the wrong color? Poor product photography can make even the most refined and skilled of arts and crafts look like hobby projects. This class will teach you simple methods of photographing your work.
Students will cover background choices, light sources, camera and lens selection and exposure tips to improve your photographs. You will learn ways to make your images sharper and the colors in your photographs more accurate. In one evening Rob will answer questions and demonstrate equipment and methods that will help you create better photographs of your creations.
