When registering online, be sure to select your tuition option (General Public, Jax Member, or Deposit) from the drop menu and give the page a moment to reset itself. It will then reflect your tuition payment above the “Add to Cart” button.

Comic Express!
with Micah Acord

Saturday, 9:30am-12:30pm
$25 per student, all materials included
Ages 10-16
Tell your story through art! This comic adventure class will walk students through the ins and outs of writing and drawing their own graphic novels, learning how to properly pencil and ink their ideas. Micah will demonstrate the process of creating a finished comic page for the students.
This morning of creative activity will include a healthy snack and movement break with Sandy Jahmi Burg–her movement exercises use neuroscience and childhood development training in a whole child approach to help keep a child’s brain, body and creativity healthy.
All materials for this class are included in the tuition price.
Micah Acord is a comic artist from Floyd who is developing his own comics which can be found at http://acomistudios.com.
Fun with Clay!

Ages 10-14
This fun filled ceramic class is designed for kids to come in and get a feel for working with clay! Kids will learn some of the basics of ceramic construction and let their creativity run wild from there. Students will make and design their own platter and try throwing on the wheel!
This morning of creative activity will include a healthy snack and movement break with Sandy Jahmi Burg–her movement exercises use neuroscience and childhood development training in a whole child approach to help keep a child’s brain, body and creativity healthy.
All the clay for this class will be supplied. If parents and children decide to have any of their pieces fired, they will need to pay a $5 firing fee for up to 3 pieces before leaving at the end of the day.
Sidra Kaluszka teaches ceramics and watercolor classes for adults and youth at the Jax, in Blacksburg and offers private lessons. She also tuahgt in our spring AfterSchool Arts session, manages the pottery studio at the Jax and enjoys watching people learn.

Ages 6-9
Explore the world of clay and have fun experimenting with the creative ways you can play with clay. Enjoy making pinch pots and coil pots and even sculptural works of art!
This morning of creative activity will include a healthy snack and movement break with Sandy Jahmi Burg–her movement exercises use neuroscience and childhood development training in a whole child approach to help keep a child’s brain, body and creativity healthy.

Sarah Greene is a professional photographer who has taught art courses for children for many years. She also teaches Afternoon Arts to 4-8 year-olds every Thursday at the Jax.
Afternoon Arts
An ongoing weekly art opportunity for kids!!
Thursdays, 4-5pm
Ages 4-8
Celebrate creativity every week, with great art at the Jax.
Kids ages 4 to 8 are invited to experience this array of arts and crafts for only
- $3 per session!!!!
- $10 for 4 sessions (or 4 kids, your choice!)!
Parent participation is welcome, but not required.
This summer, Afternoon Arts instructor, Sarah Greene will be assisted by Rebekah Bordeaux–an enthusiastic young artist who also helped us out with the AfterSchool Enrichment program this semester. Join Sarah and Rebekah for some fun and creative art activities every Thursday!
Can't make it one day, but paid in advance? Don't worry, if you miss a paid play date, we will bumped your paid play date forward a week!
Each child MUST have a liability release form and a registration form filled out with legal parent/guardian information before commencing their first Afternoon Arts class. If the legal guardian/parent is not going to be the individual dropping the kids off at Afternoon Arts on their first day of attendance, please make sure to contact us to get the appropriate paperwork and send it in with each attending child.
