Hugh Mangum: A Photographic Journey

Saturday, July 31st

5:00-6:00pm

A lecture by David Page–photographer, Jax member, Live Auction artist, and retired Fine Arts Photography instructor for Duke University.

David will be presenting the life and photography of Hugh Mangum. Mangum was a native of Durham, NC, and an itinerant photographer who captured the people and landscapes of Southwest Virginia and North Carolina in the late 1800s-early 1900s.

“Mangum was a singular and talented person with a sense of humor and design and a fascination for the eccentric and bizarre, for gypsies and the burlesque, for photographic props and extraordinary hats,” says David.

Join us for this fun and inspiring lecture prior to the 8th Annual New Works Exhibit Opening. There is no entrance fee for this event, though a $3 donation would help offset the daily operating expenses at the center.
