Exhibit: Blue Mountain School Young Artists

The art works of Blue Mountain School students will be exhibited in their instructor, Lora Leigh Giessler’s, studio at The Jacksonville Center through the end of January.

Blue Mountain School is a contemplative progressive educational community which strives to help children develop their awareness, concentration and insight. The process of making art allows a wonderful context in which to practice these skills.

Students aged seven to 13 utilized silence and guided meditation in creating personal Mandalas that reflected the most significants parts of their lives. During another lesson, students learned about color and playful expression by “discovering” the color purple and creating Abstract Impressionist paintings.

“I am continually amazed and impressed at how fresh and alive young artists can be,” said Giessler. “The images on display at The Jacksonville Center capture a timelessness and innocence that only children truly embrace.”

This exhibit will be on display through the end of January. The student artists will be honored at a reception on Saturday, January 9, from 2 to 4 PM. The public is invited to this free event.
