This class will focus on the making of nails. Each student will forge a nail header using traditional methods. We will go into a little bit of the history as well as the kinds of nails used in colonial America. There will be a nail making contest to see who can forge the most nails in a given amount of time. As a prerequisite, students should be able to maintain a forge fire and do simple forgings.

About the Instructor: David Tucciarone started to learn about steel as a shipfitter apprentice working with structural steel. As a blacksmith, he has continued his training by taking many smithing courses at John C. Campbell Folk School and Penland School of Crafts. He has studied with Nol Putnam, Clay Spencer, Peter Ross, Francis Whitaker, Doug Wilson, Ed Grove, and others. David has been a full-time blacksmith for the past 16 years. His work largely consists of custom pieces for individual clients.
