Class Description: Learn and practice 5 basic techniques and paint three 11 X 60 inch beautiful silk scarves to wear or give as gifts.    Class includes everything you will need.  If you want to use your own water color brushes, please bring them.  Class schedule: 9:00: introduction to the techniques, mixing color, creating resist lines, using resist for painting, using salt and sugar for design, using water and/or alcohol to add detail; 10:30: paint one scarf; Lunch together:  we’ll either bring a sack lunch or all go out together; Afternoon: paint 2 more scarves.--a $20/scarf fee will be charged if additional scarves are painted; 3:30:  finish and pack up.   Silk paintings sit for 24 hours before they are steam set for at least an hour in 200 degrees steam. I take them home to do this and mail them to each student within 2 days.

Artist Bio: Shirley Jane Hobbs- I’ve been an artist all of my life. My formal education has been in psychology, counseling, and education. I have a PhD (abd) in Transformative Learning and Change. My work experience ranges from gold miner to school administrator. My expertise is the creative process. I’ve taught many workshops and short classes in the areas of multicultural relations and student learning. Six years ago I started silk painting and have been working professionally as a silk painter since then. I show work at galleries in the Black Hills of South Dakota and have taught silk painting classes in my studio, in gallery classrooms, and for community education for the past 5 years--up to 10 classes each year. The students always create great value from the experience.
