About the Instructor:
Kim Washburn has studied and practiced art for over thirty years, and says that what really enthuses her is the process of making art, and sharing and encouraging others. You’ve probably heard of Betty Edwards’ “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain”, if you’re studying art. That is the philosophy that she tries to work with, but after all the years, she must admit it’s always part of the process to loosen up and free up the right/creative side of the brain, and tame the left/critical side. Other influences include: Kimone Nicolides, Leonardo daVinci, the Impressionists and the “Zen and the Art of Seeing”. She works mostly with observational drawing, capturing the essence of a subject. She works in other mediums too, oil and all kinds of painting, printmaking, clay on the wheel, and sculpture in all kinds of materials. All informed and inspired with drawing. A life-long learner she attend from 1977 until just recently when the traffic and stuff just got to be too much for her to deal with in California. She headed out like a dust bowl child and found Floyd. She received a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art Drawing and Printmaking form Sonoma State in 1999 and attended a credential program to teach art in 2002 from there as well. Kim got back to work and has painted murals, worked as a sign painter, and done production pottery. She currently teaches for The Jacksonville Center for the Arts.
